The Will to Win.

In my short life ive watched many things happen. Some good some bad,but thru it all there where a few things that stood out to me very early on. People are either in it to win or in it to lose. At some point you decide your fate. Ok i know this is a music blog ,but at the same time music is life and life is music so it will come together. This is a small story of basketball and music. Winning comes in  all areanas of life no matter what you do. One guy i watched was Michael Jordan. He was a tenaious competitor .He emposed his will over the oppent at times to win. As great of a athlete he was , sometimes he didnt have all the pieces he needed to win a championship. Those that were around him said how competitive he was. Charles Barkely once mentioned '' Michael doesnt think he can lose at anything''. Mindset plays such a important role in anything you set out to do.

Many musicians and musicprenuers have a heart to entertain or run businesses. But then fall short of the will to win at the game of music business. Either by not commiting to practice, not reading the neccesary books, going to the workshops, talking to those who are where you wanna be, or what it takes to build and create succesful music careers. It was said that Jordan would shoot over a thousand free throws until all shots where nothing but net. What tools, systems, processes are you lining up to insure sucess . In my own career i had to make a decision of what and where i wanted to be. It was quick for me to know i wanted to win. Thus began the process of learning more than music ,but the inner workings of how i could make it as a professional musicprenuer. Sometimes you hit bumps, but never fail to reajust and keep moving. The Question today is...Do you have the " Will to Win " in Music.

Music Masters and Apple Unviel.

I got so excited when I saw that apple was about to bring out "Ipad". Apple always keeps it's following looking out for whats next. And being a apple newbie junkie, its was easy and fun to look for what could transpire thru this company. It made me think about the people in our Music Masters Inner Circle and the buzz about the new "Imusic masters" that will be officially unveiled February 13,2010. And the whats next for our members, past, future and soon to come. Will be just as fun , and exciting as apple bringing out ipad. To all of you who have been around for awhile, you know we had an excellent staff of teachers and we helped many people. With the gift of music , but now I've decided tpo push the envelop and go for MORE. This new program will be beneficial to musicians, studio owners, marketers, and bu sines people alike. And in the days to come the count down is on for the pieces of the puzzle that will be reveled to you.

To next time be blessed
Time to go and play

More ways than one to make money in music

Different Ways to Make a Living in Music

Traditionally, there were few ways to make a living in music. Option 1- make minimal money teaching music or, Option 2- make NO money making music! Now we find ourselves in late 2009 where music is more than acknowledged as a true profession and there are endless ways to make any amount of money in the profession.

There is the traditional profession of music education that, depending on where you live, what level you teach (Elem, MS, HS, College), what level education you have, and how many years you have teaching in the profession, can lend a rather substantial pay check.

Leaning towards the “not so traditional” line of music education is the private lesson studios that are being established across the nation. Something that used to be reserved for Saturday morning piano lessons is now becoming a formidable method of income for many music educators.

We also have the ever so popular Music Industry which includes everything from BeyoncĂ© to the Public Relations aspect of promoting the New York Philharmonic. The people in “the business” are not necessarily the ones making the big bucks, either. Their agents and record producers are the ones making the money. So many young people want to grow up to be the next big country singer so they can be rich but they can surpass any financial goals they may have by getting a four year degree in Music Industry and becoming the person making the decisions for that “big country singer that is rich.”

Many people in the music business make money by utilizing their specific and unique abilities as musicians and business man by traveling around to area groups and offering clinician criticism to these groups.

Your 1st Steps

To the many new members and subscricbers who've joined us this year. I'd like to say welcome! If you are one of the new additions to Music Masters, your life is about to exceed to heights unimaginable. Spring is a time of re-birth,which allows us to reflect and realize what's new and invigrating. The musical destiny of you, your child or children will greatly outlined by your decision to become a member or subscriber of our wonderful studio and newsletter.

The springtime is a time when members from many differnet communities are eager for a new beginning on their musical journey. I can remmeber my first steps when learning to play music. At age six,my parnets took me to the local music store to purchase my very own first instrument. It was such an exciting time for both me and my parnets! The weekend was filled with anticipation as I anxiously awaited my first musical debut at church.

However, as time passed on, the excitement and thrill of having my own instrument took a drastic nosedive. Suddenly, it was just another toy.Yet, I made the desicion to preserve and see it throught, because I loved music. Just like other musicians and me, there will also be moments along your musical journey when your instrest in and love of music will decline; especially when you feel that you are not progressing as rapidly as you'd like or when Lil'johnny just isn't mastering playing the drums as you thought he would. It is at those times when you have to remind yourself that sucess has never preceded hard work or persistence, not even I the "Music Master" could get around that.

Reflect back on Lil' johnny's first steps as he began to walk. First, he stood up without holding on and you were elated. Then he took that first step, wobbled and fell. You were both excited and proud of Lil'johnny. Therefore, you encouraged him to get up and try again and repeatedly prasied him for his efforts. Well, just like walking, mastering any musical instrument will also take repetitive practice, encouragement and praise.

So let me be the first to encourage the beginning musicians who have grand visions of their musical destiny. I've often heard many of Music Masters' members say, "I've always seen myself playing in front of large crowds". Believe me when I say, "Yes you can and yes, you will", if you to press on when times get hard and your learning appears to have come to a halt. And to the moms and dads who have visions of their children playing sweet music for big family gatherings, praise their every effort and encourage them to practice even when neither you nor they desire to do so.

Learning music opens a whole world of endless possibilities for both musicians and their families. Therefore, I encourage each new member to reach above the break when times get hard so that you can receive your breakthrough as a musician. If you sow time and effort into learning and practicing then great will be the rewards when you begin to embark upon your musical career.

Be Blessed,

Terrence Cummings
